Burning Policy

Open Burning and Recreational Fires

  • Open Burning

    • Burning of any refuse or salvageable (discarded or unused) material into the ambient air without passing through a stack or chimney – ILLEGAL IN THE CITY

  • Recreational Fire

    • Burning materials other than rubbish and not in an outdoor fireplace, incinerator, portable fireplace or BBQ grill or BBQ pit and can be no larger than 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet in height. Fires shall be enclosed to prevent spreading of the fire such as brick, metal, or other non-combustible solid materials.

  • Portable Outdoor Fireplaces

    • Permitted in the city as long as it is operated in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions

  • Fuel

    • Fires shall only burn seasoned untreated wood and not for the purpose of burning trash, garbage, plastic, or other waste.

  • Attendance

    • Attended by a person over the age of 18 at all times and there shall be present in the immediate vicinity at least one operational extinguisher or other suppresion equipment such as an adequate supply of sand, water, or a connected and operable water hose.

  • Location

    • Recreational fires and portabe outdoor fireplaces shall not be within 15 feet of any structure or combustible material

  • Hours

    • Burning is allowed up to:

      • 10PM Sunday through Thursday

      • 12AM Midnight Friday and Saturday

  • All other burning rules still apply
