NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING #2
The City of Niles, Ohio intends to apply to the Ohio Development Services Agency for funding under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Small Cities Program, a federally funded program administered by the state. The City is eligible for $75,000.00 of Program Year 2016 CDBG Allocation funding, provided the City meets applicable program requirements. On April 4, 2016, the City conducted its first public hearing to inform citizens about the CDBG program, how it may be used, what activities are eligible, and other important program requirements.
Based on the assessment of the City’s needs, the City is proposing to undertake the following CDBG activities for Program Year 2016.
CDBG Allocation Grant Program - $75,000.00
Activity No. 1 Street Improvements - $ 62,500.00
Activity No. 2 Administration - $10,000.00
Activity No. 3 Fair Housing - $ 2,500.00
The City is also eligible to apply for CDBG Competitive set-aside grants up to $500,000. The City is proposing to request a $500,000 Neighborhood Revitalization Grant to implement five activities in a low and moderate income neighborhood, including demolitions, street improvements, fire hydrants, curbs and sidewalks, and flood and drainage facilities.
The activities meet the National Objectives of principally benefiting low and moderate income persons, or eliminating slum and blight.
A second public hearing will be held June 16, 2016 at 4:00 P.M in City Council Chambers at the Safety Service Complex, 15 East State Street, Niles, Ohio, to give citizens an adequate opportunity to review and comment on the City’s proposed CDBG Applications, including the proposed activities summarized above, before the City submits its Application to the Ohio Development Services Agency.
Citizens are encouraged to attend this Hearing on June 16, 2016 to express their views and comments on the City’s proposed CDBG Applications.
