ELECTRIC RATE MODIFICATION NOTICE 2/26/2010

Niles Electric bills beginning April 1, 2010 will reflect base rate increases for our commercial and industrial customers. This will mark the first time since 1988 that our customers have been asked to pay more for their electric service. Residential rates, which have been reduced during this period, will be restored to their 1988 levels.

Since 1988, the City of Niles has spent in excess of $30 million upgrading and expanding our distribution system to improve the quality and reliability of electrical service to our customers. Making these improvements was accomplished due to a period of relatively low bulk power rates, a rising demand for service, and the diligent oversight of the Light Dept. by the City’s administration and council members.

Unfortunately the cost of bulk electric power, like many forms of energy, has been on an upward trend in recent years. These higher costs coupled with the loss of some very large commercial and industrial users have made this rate adjustment necessary. Rest assured that we will continue to monitor our costs and revenues in an effort to serve your electrical needs at the lowest possible cost to you.

Current Fuel Cost Adjustment(FCA) (As of January 2010 Billing): $0.0200 per kilowatt.
